Sheppard B. Kominars is an author, educator and poet. He has published two volumes of poetry, “Portal Poems: Perspectives on Aging” and “Angles of Incidence: Poems of 7 Decades,” and he is working on a third, “Poems Last But Not Lost.” A resident of San Francisco, Kominars teaches poetry and journal writing workshops. Writing and education have marked his entire life. He wrote his first poem at age 11. He majored in philosophy at Kenyon College and earned his master's degree at Columbia University while working as a copy boy at Time, Inc. He wrote and worked in Europe in the late 1950s, then returned to Boston University, where he earned a doctorate in English language and literature. He taught writing and literature in many institutions of higher education and was vice president of two universities. He has written two books on recovery issues, “Accepting Ourselves” (Harper/Collins) and Accepting Ourselves and Others (Hazelden). He has also written a book about journal writing, “Write for Life: Healing Body, Mind and Spirit Through Journal Writing,” published by the Cleveland Clinic Press.
