Sean Feit Oakes – The 8 Worldly Winds

The Buddha described eight “worldly winds” that come and go throughout our lives: gain and loss, fame and disgrace, blame and praise, pleasure and pain. They are the source of all our drama, anxiety, and confusion because we cling to them, craving some and fearing others. We’ll explore how to practice with these inevitable weather patterns and what becomes possible when we can be more resilient around the changing winds of the world. Sean Feit Oakes, PhD (he/him, queer, Puerto Rican-English ancestry on unceded Pomo land in Northern California), teaches Buddhism and somatic practice focusing on the integration of meditation, trauma resolution, and social justice. He received teaching authorization from Jack Kornfield, and wrote his dissertation on extraordinary states in Buddhist meditation and experimental dance. He teaches with Spirit Rock Meditation Center, East Bay Meditation Center, Insight Timer, and elsewhere.
